Signs Your Printer or Copier Toner Cartridge Needs Replacing

If your prints are coming out lighter than usual, streaked, or patchy, the toner cartridge is usually the first thing to check — but not always the cause. Here's how to tell what's actually going on before you order a part.

Common signs the toner is genuinely low or empty

  • Fading across the whole page, especially on one side first — this is the classic sign of toner running low.
  • Faint or ghost printing that gets progressively lighter the more you print.
  • A low-toner warning light or message on the machine's display panel.
  • White streaks running vertically through text or images.

Signs it might NOT be the toner

  • Streaks or spots that repeat at a fixed interval down the page usually point to the drum unit, not the toner — a damaged or worn drum leaves a mark every time it rotates.
  • Smudging that rubs off when you touch the page often means the fuser or heat roller isn't sealing the toner properly, not that the cartridge is empty.
  • Random black spots or background shading can be a dirty or worn drum rather than the toner itself.

Before you order a replacement

Check your machine's exact model number first — it's usually printed on a label on the front or inside the front cover. Toner cartridges are model-specific, so the right part depends on getting this right. If you're not sure how to find it, see our guide on locating your printer or copier's model number.

We stock both genuine OEM and compatible toner cartridges, refill bags, drums, and rollers for Ricoh, Xerox, Kyocera, Konica Minolta, Toshiba, and Canon machines, with Cash on Delivery available across Pakistan.
